Alcohol Intervention Services and Programs
Throughout the United States, there are thousands of alcohol intervention programs designed to encourage an alcoholic to seek help for his addiction. Some programs and services are geared towards adults, others towards teens and young people fighting addiction. However, they all have one common goal, to motivate the alcoholic to enter into a treatment program.
One primary, very basic intervention is a clinical assessment performed by the problem-drinker’s primary care physician. This first line of defense is extremely valuable as it will include a complete medical history of the patient to determine whether or not the patient’s health has already been comprised due to their alcohol addiction. The doctor will probably order a number of laboratory tests and exams to help him in determining or assessing the gravity of the situation, and will then, make a professional judgment as to the patient’s willingness to modify his behavior.
Besides the brief intervention service provided by the physician, the concerned family member will most likely turn to professional interventionists who specialize in substance abuse and addiction. A number of motivational methods can be used by the interventionist and may be tailored to age of the individual, as well as the emotional, behavioral and physical condition of the person.
Let’s briefly look at two highly recommended intervention programs and services offered to families.
Addiction Intervention Resources (AIR) is a nationwide organization devoted to intervention services with multiple locations throughout the U.S. So, no matter where you are located in the country, AIR has offices nearby to provide immediate assistance in your time of crisis. They also have a national call center which can be accessed 24/7, and a qualified staff comprised of counselors, interventionists and consultants who are trained to handle any type of emergency situation.
The Phoenix Center located in Greenville, SC is a non-profit organization delivering multiple types of programs, including alcohol intervention services. These services are provided to youth, ages 16-20 who have been arrested due to DUI or other alcohol-related crimes, or who have been brought in to seek counseling by their parents or teachers.
Interventionists often charge substantial fees for their services; however financing is an option in most cases. If you think you’re loved one’s life is in danger, then it is wise not to delay and seek immediate assistance by a trained interventionist.
